The commercial Dungeness crab season officially began today after central California crab fishermen and seafood processors agreed this morning to a price of $2.25 per pound for the spindly crustaceans.
"We'll have crab on the market by Wednesday or Thursday," said Larry Collins, head of the San Francisco Crab Boat Owners Association. "Get your salt water boiling."
After a record catch in 2010, expectations are high for another strong year. Commercial crab fisherman last year hauled in about 19 million pounds, blowing previous records out of the water.
